Day of HVAC Installation

FAQs

What is involved in an HVAC installation?

HVAC installation typically involves removing the old system (if applicable), installing the new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, connecting ductwork, wiring, and ensuring everything is properly calibrated and functioning. See the more detailed information below.

How long does an HVAC installation take?

The duration of an HVAC installation can vary depending on factors such as the size of the system, the complexity of the installation, and any unforeseen issues encountered during the process. On average, a straightforward installation will take ½ day to 1 full day to complete. A package unit or partial replacement will be closer to ½ day and a full split-system installation will be a full day. If ductwork is also included it might take more than 1 day.

What time will you typically arrive?

We normally try to get started early to ensure we finish before it gets late. Your specific arrival window will be indicated on your job confirmation, however. Typically this means arrival between 7:30 and 9:00.

Do I need to be home during the HVAC installation?

While it’s not strictly necessary for you to be home during the entire installation process, if you won’t be home we will need to approve that in advance. It’s necessary that you are fully available at the beginning and end of the installation to ensure everything is in order and to address any questions or concerns with the installation team.

What are some more details about the work that will be done?

  • Preparation:
Before installation begins we need to prepare the installation site by removing any old equipment, clearing space, and making any necessary modifications to existing ductwork or infrastructure.
  • Installation of Equipment:
The installation team will begin by installing the main components of the HVAC system, such as the furnace, air conditioner, heat pump, or air handler, depending on the type of system. They will connect the equipment to the existing ductwork or install new ducts as needed. They will reconnect all controls such as thermostats, zoning systems, air-quality systems as detailed in your estimate/proposal.
  • Ductwork Installation:
If new ductwork is required or if existing ducts need to be repaired or replaced, the installation team will install or modify the ductwork to ensure proper airflow throughout your home.
  • Wiring and Controls:
The installation team will wire the HVAC system to your home’s electrical system, including thermostats, control panels, and any other accessories or components. They will test the electrical connections to ensure everything is properly wired and functioning.
  • Testing and Calibration:
Once the installation is complete, the HVAC system will be tested to ensure it is working correctly. The installation team will calibrate the system to ensure proper heating and cooling performance and make any necessary adjustments.
  • Cleanup and Final Inspection:
After testing and calibration, the installation team will clean up the work area, removing any debris or equipment. After the installation we complete our own quality review and ensure you are satisfied with the work. Once that is complete, we then schedule a final inspection as needed to meet local building codes and regulations.
  • Instruction and Handover:
Typically the equipment installation instructions must be left near the new equipment for the inspection. However, we will provide digital copies for reference when the process is complete (in the office) along with warranties, service agreements, and address any final questions or concerns you may have.
