***  Extreme Cold Alert ****

What You Need to Know

Our team is currently working around the clock (at Christmas time!!) to keep up with the demand generated by this unusually cold weather for our area. We are servicing customers in priority order, with new installations and MonsterCare customers taking first priority as well as the sick and elderly who have no backup heat source..

Just because it’s a little cooler than you like in your home doesn’t mean you need to call us. HVAC systems are not designed to maintain normal indoor temperatures when it’s this cold. We’ll be happy to explain all about building code and ‘Manual-J’ residential heating loads another time, but just take our word for it at the moment because we’re so busy! 🙏

Please use the following guidance to decide whether your system operation is normal and you need to call:

Normal Operation

  • Thermostat message: Your auxiliary or emergency heat has been running for the last ‘x’ hours.
  • Thermostat message: Your system is calling for heat but the temperature has dropped ‘x’ degrees in the last x hours. (as long as temp is above 60 and holding and you feel some warm air).
  • It feels cool in your home and you notice that you have the thermostat set for 70 degrees and it’s 65. (as long as temp is above 60 and holding and you feel some warm air at the vents).
  • Air from the vents doesn’t feel warm or hot and you have a heat pump. The system will occasionally go into defrost mode which actually turns on the A/C, but electric heat counteracts it. As long as the temp is holding in your home above 60, everything is probably fine.

Not Normal:

  • Temp is dropping rapidly in the home and is nearing 60 degrees.
  • Thermostat is blank
  • You are 100% sure your heat is not working.

If this is the case, please call us right away at 919-MONSTER (you can also text us, but we may not see it as quickly). Please bundle up and enjoy your holiday season!!
